Basic Mediation Training

Objective

This 24-hour workshop will train you to become a mediator using the facilitative style of mediation. This workshop will teach you facilitation skills and techniques to enhance communication, conflict resolution, information gathering, perspective-taking, problem-solving, interest-based negotiating, and agreement writing. Some of the topics covered include: confidentiality, mediator neutrality, active listening, the mediation process, and the legal and ethical considerations involved in mediating disputes. The training format includes mini-lecture, video, individual, small, and large group exercises, and coached role-playing. The workshop focuses on family, neighborhood and small claims issues.

You must attend all 24 hours to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Trainees are invited to apprentice at GSMP at no extra cost.

Trainer(s)

Cheryl Cutrona is the Executive Director of Good Shepherd Mediation Program. She is a mediator, trainer, facilitator, writer, and editor. She mediates for the PA Dept. of Education Office of Dispute Resolution, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the U.S. Postal Service. Ms. Cutrona holds a B.A. from Michigan State University and has received her JD from Beasley School of Law at Temple University.
